A study in movement and memory….

Projects

Current work is occupied with developing a new collection of research and development work that uses textiles within the context of painting, collage and sculpture. These vary from canvases that have been stitched and created to create a relief that is then prepared and painted on as a surface. These works are primarily concerned with my developing thoughts on ‘The Gaze’ – looking at  perception of ourselves in various settings, physical consciousness, external and internal reflection even the eye itself……. it goes on. The pure textile relief work or 3D canvases echo much of this at the moment continuing in the vein of Java.  I will update the gallery with new work for this collection as soon as. Seeing Double was sold last year so just  ‘Interrupted’ and ‘Fall out and Hung’ remain.

Sculpture mainly compromises of trying to make knit 3D whilst incorporating other sometimes more hidden aspects that are revealed as the work is suspended. The sculpture and textile canvases are built and constructed through collage interventions using embroidery, my own designed knit work and printed pieces with digital collage; quite a process of layering. Sculptures were recently used and created for ‘Surface’ see the projects page! I’m looking to develop these further and explore their more figurative aspects in relationship to movement and light.

Over the course of 2008 – 2009 I am looking to exhibit this collection whilst keeping the ‘Surface’ project alive and well as it continues to tour taking on different spaces.

Thanks for looking in.
